I did the "Learning Frames" with Mr. Wuliger's class on slavery, and they gave me more information from the students than I had expected. One of the most productive parts of the form is the sentence that starts..."the next time we study_____, I want to learn more about_______." I had some very interesting responses: "I want to learn why we only study about black slaves and not of other races." "I want to learn about what they did after they were free." "I want to learn more about a specific family." These were great responses that made me think about adding some different content to the lesson in the future.

I used the Mind Streaming technique with my 7th and 8th graders. Getting them to choose partners or have partners chosen for them was the hardest part! They were to talk about our Essential Question, How has the invention of the computer affected how you live and learn? My favorite part of the mind streaming activity was that everyone has a turn to speak up about their ideas. When I try whole class discussions it seems to be the same students who volunteer ideas or raise their hands to contribute. After we finished the mind streaming each student went to the white board and wrote down 1 idea that they talked about.
