I did not design a flipchart but used one already made by a collegue. There are many already pre-made and shared at the site. For a genetics vocabulary lesson, students are shown terms we have been using all along and match them to the descriptions. First students use the stylus to match the terms, if it is correct, it stays, if not, it returns to the list. After completion, students can copy into their journals. Or you can do this in reverse, show the terms and descriptions, have the students complete the task in their journals. Individual students use the slate to complete the definition. Students then check their results with the board. This is engaging, and motivates students to complete the task. It also frees me to check journals as I navigate the class with the slate.

The flipcharts were very interesting. I have found that you can just search for ones that you want to use in your classroom, and they have them already set up for you. If you are like me, I really don't have the time to learn the entire ActivSlate program from top to bottom, but most of the flipcharts that I saw were very user-friendly and really walk you through what to do. My suggestion is to locate a flip chart that you really want your kids to use to learn, you go through it and develop your lesson around it, and then teach using the flip chart.

I totally agree with Mr. Kelly. If you find a pre-made flipchart that you can use, you can download it then customize it to your lesson. Also, try and let the students use the slate to expose them to this type interactive technology. I also have the software saved on my flash drive so if anyway decides they need it or want it on a different computer just let me know. I have not used it yet in my class but I plan to in a future lesson. I did install the software on the computer in the Media Center Computer Lab that is connected to the projector.
