I beleive cross curricular units can be a great thing but as mentioned by Ms. Franklin they can be difficult to implement for those of us that are bound and tied to our pacing guides. Two of my team mates were able to create a cross curricular unit plan together and the students appeared to be engaged. If anyone has any ideas for cross curricular activites for math that are aligned with the standard course of study please share.
I like that "Cross-curricular units" tap into higher order thinking skills as demonstrated by Bloom's Taxonomy in the information that was distributed. Students have to recall, demonstrate, use, break down, reshape, and judge information they have acquired when cross curricular learning is happening. The ideas presented in the meeting were helpful.
Our goal for professional development this year is to meet the specific needs of members of our Professional Learning Community. After each professional development opportunity, participants are asked to reflect and then comment on the presentation and on the implementation of the strategies in your classroom.
We believe we can build a core of professional knowledge that will benefit each of us.
Additionally, independent professional development will be offered online. Staff members who participate in online p.d. should write a reflection of their work on the blog.
